The 50th Anniversary CROP walk will be held on Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m. Our team, led by Beth and Kenny Claxton will be recruiting walkers and pledges to support CROP. CROP started off as the ‘Christian Rural Overseas Program’ in the 1940s, recruiting farmers to donate surplus production to be used to send food to people in famine stricken areas around the world. CROP walks began in the 1960s (our Fred Steffen organized Elgin’s first walk) and today raises over $8 million for agricultural development, disaster response and assisting refugees.
Here’s how it works:
· Go to https://www.crophungerwalk.org/elginil and if you are going to join in the walk, join First Congregational’s team (look for the Live Love logo and click it). Enter your name. Give yourself a pledge if you want.
· If you are not going to walk but want to support the team, you can give in the name of an individual or support the team in general. The secure website will ask for your credit card number and you are done.
· Or you can come to church on October 20. The walkers will be here and you can give cash or write out your check to CWS and give it to a walker (no tax benefits if you give cash).
